Message boards or forums are hosted on many family history sites allowing people to post queries in the hope that people with answers will reply.

A surprisingly high percentage of queries receive answers or exchanges of information.

The biggest message board and the best place to start exploring message boards is at Rootsweb where there are message boards relating to hundreds of surnames and most Counties of the UK.

Other boards can be found by Google searching or checking on the major family history sites.

If you are really stuck you have nothing to lose by posting questions on several message boards.
