Local Museums

A great source of information for family historians can be local museums.

These sometimes relate to the local area or a specific person or trade.

Whilst may of the larger museums have expensive web sites and databases most of the local museums will not have a web site or a basic website constructed by a member.

Most of the valuable information will be contained in the archives to the museum in the form of old books, poster and pictures.

Local museums often have accumulated most of the local historic material not considered large or  important enough for the County Records Offices.

They usually have a bookshop which stocks local history books that are difficult to obtain elsewhere.

Always search for a local museum and make contact by e mail.

Most will be staffed by volunteers who are often delighted that someone has an interest in their activities and will search the local archives either fee of charge or for a small donation to museum funds.
