Housing Deeds

All houses will have title deeds.

They will contain a vast amount of detail about the house  including, the date it was built, what was on the land before the house, the owner of the land, the owners of the house and much more.

The normal problem is to find the deeds.

If a mortgage is outstanding they are normally held by the building society or bank.

If a house is privately owned they may be with the landowner but often are kept in a solicitors safe or other safe place.

If you don't own the house or have access to the owner getting to see the deeds would be virtually impossible.

A few old deeds are deposited in County Record but usually for larger premises.

The advice on deeds is that they are great documents to check if you have access to them.

Some information from the deeds will be recorded by the Land Registry.
