The History

From 1860 the Royal College of Surgeons gave a specific dental qualification.

Although surgeons carried out some dentistry, until them dental work especially amongst poor people had mainly been carried out by barbers.

From 1879 the Dental register listing all dentists was published annually.

There were still many unqualified dentists until in 1921 the Dentist Act required all dentists to be qualified.
