The History Civil Disputes were tradionally the responsibility of the Chancery Court which is a Division of the High Court. The old Chancery records are held by the National Archives which start in the 1400's What records can you find? Chancery records can include extensive datils of the case and the claim. Names of all parties involved are included. Most people named will be comparatively wealthy as poor people had no money to pay lawyers and so had little access to justice. They are sometimes mentioned if they are pertinent to the case.
