The biggest database of chemists is operated by the Open University who have a searchable database of nearly 5,000 chemists who belonged to leading chemical firms between 1870 and 1970.

Other sources would include searching alumni lists for the University that the person attended. or checking Country Records Offices for records of the firm for which the chemist worked.
