The History A bookbinder was a skilled worker who made bound the cover to a book. A machine Ruler was the assistant who operated the relevant machinery.
What records can you find? The modern records centre at Warwick University maintain the archives of trade union records including the various bookbinders and machine rulers unions. * County Records Office and Local Museums both hold records of relevant firms and individuals. Searches should be made firstly by the individual persons name, then by the firms name and lastly by the trade.
