The History

Many churches hold baptisms of young infants into the church.

A few churches baptise adults when they are ready to make a commitment to the church and others do not believe in baptism.

Fortunately for Family Historians the Church of England strongly supported baptism of infants which covered the majority of people in the UK.

What records can you find?

Unlike births ,Baptism is entirely religious and as such has never formed part of official records.

Baptism records are often found in County Records Offices although occasionally they have been retained by the relevant church.
